Ten years later, 1,200 bacterial isolates and over 150 species later, our group is nearing completion of a freshwater bacterial flora inventory for the Lake Ontario-Rochester Embayment area. Funded by the National Geographic Society, the study aims to make predictive corelations between occurring bacterial populations and the data produced by remote sensing imagery collected by LandSAT 8. Students Gianna Raqueño and Jacob Alberti attended the conference at SUNY ESF in Syracuse, where Dr. O gave an oral presentation. Five years ago another student, Dylan Cornell, received an award at the first STRATUS conference and we were happy to be back. Our hope is complete the sequencing of our bacterial isolates this summer and publish the data early in 2025.
